She hummed "Low" while getting her epidural...

“Let The Music Do The Talking”....

Thank you for that wonderful jam Aerosmith.

Growing up, music has always, in one way or another, influenced who I am and who I would one day become. I cannot imagine a world in which it doesn’t exist, nor do I want to. I also cannot imagine the endless situations where music has influenced a person to feel empowered and given them the “I’ve got this” attitude to continue.

One of these situations is pregnancy.

Another is labor.

Birth is yet one more.

Feeding your child is there too.

And yes, even changing a diaper can be added to the ever-growing list.

The thing about music is that there is a kind for every life. Every soul. Every personality.

I remember when I was pregnant with my daughter, Caydence (who is now 7), my husband insisted on playing some music for her via headphones on my belly. John Mayer was her favorite while in my belly. Driving to the hospital when I was going into active labor with her, music was playing on the local Kissimmee, Florida top hits radio station.

While bracing myself for the epidural, I remember my dad calling my mom, an old country love song her ringtone. During labor, I recall myself humming “Low” by Flo Rida and T-Pain, hoping no one else would hear me and think I was ridiculous. After having Caydence, the room was alive with the sounds of nurses and doctors and other staff, welcoming my baby girl into the world. My baby was singing her own “music” in her own way, through that beautiful cry.

I brought her home, and in the weeks, months, years to follow, music ensues. Music is a part of her life. Every day she has to hear some form of it or her day just isn’t what it should be.

I truly believe that the most important moments in our lives, can be remembered by music. I have a terrible memory, but yet I can remember the music from that day. One of the best days of my life. Let us help you create a playlist (or several) of your favorite tunes that can assist you in getting through and reliving the wonderful times of your life!

A Doula can assist you in making your pregnancy, your labor, the birth of your child, the way you nourish your child, and yes, even changing those diapers, memories that you will cherish. Memories that you will be able to “hear” by recalling the music.

“Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and cannot remain silent.”
