Breastfeeding Awareness Month

Arkansas Family Doulas is always honored to have the privilege of supporting breastfeeding mothers on their journey.

This past week, we celebrated World Breastfeeding Week 2016 and encouraged all moms to be proud of their breastfeeding lifestyle.

This international recognition is coordinated by the World Breastfeeding Alliance for Breastfeeding Action.

The World Breastfeeding Alliance strives to adapt breastfeeding resources for the modern world, promoting healthy breastfeeding lifestyles and opportunities for mothers internationally.

In 2016, World Breastfeeding Week aimed to focus on breastfeeding as a key component of sustainable development, and increase the presence of normalized breastfeeding in the media.

Last week there was an influx of women and celebrities across the world confidently posting images of themselves feeding their children, and supporting other breastfeeding women. This year, respect was an important element of World Breastfeeding Week, identifying ways that society can encourage all breastfeeding mothers.

On a grander scale, this week-long breastfeeding dedication sets out to impact women's rights internationally.

Breastfeeding is making strides.

Promotion like the World Breastfeeding Week allows mothers to collaborate and stand together to normalize breastfeeding as a global initiative. We have a long way to go, but an annual movement will help create more awareness of the social changes that need to happen to improve breastfeeding education.

Here in Arkansas, we are always available to support mothers setting out on their own breastfeeding journey

Our lactation specialists provide support for breastfeeding mothers and education to women in the Little Rock area about how to effectively prepare to breastfeed.

As mothers and caregivers of families in our community, we strive to improve local breastfeeding resources and create accessible breastfeeding assistance. We also offer classes and workshops for mothers to learn more about feeding techniques and all the breastfeeding basics.

Our next Breastfeeding Basics Class is this Saturday at the Babies R Us in Little Rock Arkansas. Register to attend and be confident that your baby is on a healthy breastfeeding schedule.
